Athletic track colour revealed for Paris 2024 Olympics

The Paris 2024 Olympics will feature purple running tracks, marking the first time in Olympic history such a color has been chosen.

The design and construction of these tracks are overseen by the Italian company MONDO, known for their work on the tracks for the Rio 2016 Olympics and the vibrant red track for Tokyo 2021.

To craft these unique tracks, workers will manually apply 1,800 pots of glue and use over 1,000 rolls of surfacing materials.

Construction on these tracks started in January and is slated for completion by the end of May. The stadium is set to host its inaugural athletics event on August 2.

The Stade de France has undergone renovations since 2021 for the Paris Olympics. Notable upgrades include nearly 150 sports lights that have been switched to energy-efficient LED technology. Additionally, architectural lighting has been added to the stadium roof, enhancing its visual appeal with light displays.

Massive screens, each spanning over 240 square meters (2580 square feet) – roughly the size of tennis courts – have been set up.

According to Maria Le Corre, Deputy Director of Projects and Works at the Stade de France Consortium, these screens and lighting installations will remain as a lasting legacy post-Olympics.

The Stade de France will host 43 athletics events, 160 para-athletics events, and two rugby sevens games during the Paris Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
