31-year-old Raphaël Varane is set to depart Manchester United for free next summer. The French defender’s contract was not renewed, and he announced his imminent departure in a video message. The club also confirmed the news.
Varane joined the club in 2021 for €40 million plus €10 million in add-ons from Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
However, at Manchester United, he never quite reached the level he displayed as a Blancos player. In three seasons with United, he played 93 games and only won one League Cup last year.
Varane has struggled with numerous injuries in Manchester, missing 47 games. Currently recovering from a muscular injury, he is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
United currently sits eighth in the Premier League, with two games left. On May 25th, they will contest the FA Cup final against rivals City.
