Foden wants to make history with Manchester City in title battle

Phil Foden believes Manchester City will make English football history if they win their fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side are on course to win their sixth title in seven seasons, leading Arsenal by two points going into the final matchday.

City will lift the Premier League trophy if they beat West Ham at the Etihad Stadium or if Arsenal fail to beat Everton. Winning four titles in a row would be unprecedented in the history of the English top flight, surpassing even the legendary Liverpool teams of the 70s and 80s, Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and the great Arsenal teams.

Foden, winner of the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award, said: “It’s history and I don’t think it will happen again. It’s something the team knows, the team understands and we’re looking forward to trying to do.”

After winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup last season, City are aiming for the double this year. They face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on May 25, before Foden turns his attention to Euro 2024 in Germany.

“If we can win these next two finals, we’ll go into the tournament full of confidence,” said Foden. “We’re going to give everything to try and succeed and reach the Premier League four times, which has never been done before. It would mean a lot to us. I’m very pleased with my performance and now it’s down to one last effort on Sunday, one last game to try and win the league,” added the striker.
