Cristiano Ronaldo ended the Saudi Pro League season by setting a new goal-scoring record on Monday.
Ronaldo scored twice in Riyadh as Al-Nassr defeated Al-Ittihad 4-2, bringing his league tally to 35 goals, surpassing the 2019 record set by Abderrazak Hamdallah.
In the closing seconds of the first half, Ronaldo, who had two goals disallowed for offside, controlled a long pass from Mohammed Al-Fatil with his chest and scored with a low shot from the left side of the area.
Celebratory Goal and Standing Ovation
With 21 minutes left, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner celebrated enthusiastically after heading in a corner from Marcelo Brozovic. He was substituted five minutes later to a standing ovation from the home fans.
Ronaldo’s season was action-packed, featuring four hat tricks and one red card. He was also suspended for an obscene gesture directed at Al-Shabab fans who were chanting the name of Lionel Messi, his longstanding rival.
Al-Nassr finished second in the league, 14 points behind local rival Al-Hilal, which completed the 34-round league unbeaten and secured the championship more than two weeks ago.
