Brazilian international forward Vinícius Júnior has been named the best player of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League, while Portuguese midfielder Vitinha has been included in the competition’s Team of the Tournament, UEFA announced on Monday.

The technical observers of the organization chose the Real Madrid player, who scored the second goal in Sunday’s final against Borussia Dortmund (2-0), securing the Spanish club’s 15th European title.

Vinícius Júnior, 23, netted six goals and provided four assists in 10 matches during this Champions League campaign, making him one of the top scorers, trailing only Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) and Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), who both scored eight.

The Brazilian international was also pivotal in Real Madrid’s previous triumph, scoring the winning goal in the 2021/22 final against Liverpool (1-0).

English midfielder Jude Bellingham, 20, also from Real Madrid, was named the best young player, having contributed four goals and five assists in 11 appearances for the Spanish capital club, which continues to dominate the competition with 15 titles, more than double the second-most successful club, AC Milan, which has seven.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha was the only Portuguese player selected for the 2023/24 Champions League Team of the Tournament, which features four players from champions Real Madrid and four from runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

The team of the season includes goalkeeper Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund), defenders Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), who scored the opening goal in the final, Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), and Ian Maatsen (Borussia Dortmund), midfielders Marcel Sabitzer (Borussia Dortmund), Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain), and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), and forwards Phil Foden (Manchester City), Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid), and Harry Kane (Bayern Munich).
