Kenya tops African medal count at the Paris Olympics 2024

Kenya leads the African medal count at the Paris Olympics with 11 medals, including 4 golds. Algeria is second with 2 gold medals, while South Africa is third with 1 gold medal. Ethiopia rounds out the top four, also with 1 gold but fewer silver medals.

The Paris Olympics have concluded, and the United States claimed the top spot for the fourth consecutive time, winning 40 gold medals. China also won 40 golds but had fewer silver medals, placing them second. France, the host nation, finished fourth overall and led Europe with 16 gold medals.

In the Tokyo Olympics, African countries earned 37 medals. This year, the 12 African nations competing in Paris slightly surpassed this number, achieving a total of 38 medals.

Kenya’s success was largely due to its athletes’ performances in athletics, especially in middle and long-distance events. Kenyan athletes earned bronze medals in both marathon events, with strong showings from Hellen Obiri and Benson Kipruto, despite Eliud Kipchoge’s unexpected withdrawal.
