Kylian Mbappé remains unwilling to compromise with Paris Saint-Germain in their ongoing financial dispute. On Wednesday, the French soccer star rejected a mediation offer from the French league’s legal commission regarding unpaid wages and bonuses.
Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, claims PSG owes him €55 million ($60 million), including three months’ salary and a portion of a loyalty bonus. Despite the meeting between PSG officials and Mbappé’s representatives in Paris, the player’s camp dismissed the need for mediation, arguing that a simple review of his payslip would confirm the missed payments.
PSG, however, maintains that it does not owe Mbappé money, citing an agreement made when he was sidelined during the 2023-24 season after deciding not to extend his contract. The club claims Mbappé agreed to forgo bonuses upon his reintegration into the team, a claim his representatives refute, stating no such agreement exists.
PSG expressed satisfaction with the commission hearing and reiterated that Mbappé had made public and private commitments that should be honored. The legal commission suggested mediation, which PSG claims to have pursued for months, but the player’s side rejected.
The French league did not comment, and Mbappé’s representatives have not disclosed their next steps. Given the deadlock, the matter will likely be resolved in an employment court.
Mbappé’s relationship with PSG deteriorated during his final season, with the player frustrated by unfulfilled promises to sign key players, despite receiving the club’s most lucrative contract in 2022. After informing PSG he wouldn’t extend his contract, Mbappé was briefly sidelined but eventually reintegrated after tense negotiations.
