Paul Pogba’s four-year doping ban was reduced to 18 months after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Juventus midfielder, who began serving his suspension in February, can now resume his career next year.
Pogba, 31, tested positive for testosterone in August last year, leading to a maximum penalty from Italy’s anti-doping court. The initial suspension could have been career-ending. Additionally, Pogba was fined earlier this year in March.
Upon learning about the reduced sentence, Pogba expressed relief, saying, “The nightmare is finally over”, and shared his optimism about returning to the sport. He admitted it had been a difficult period, stating, “Everything I’ve worked so hard for has been put on hold.” The World Cup winner also took the opportunity to thank his fans for their ongoing support and said he is eager to get back on the field.
