Vinícius breaks silence with defiant message after Ballon d’Or controversy

Vinícius Jr, favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, saw the prestigious award go to Manchester City’s star Spanish midfielder Rodri. Real Madrid, Vinícius’ club, received the news before the official announcement and responded by boycotting the ceremony, prompting fierce criticism.

After the gala, Vinícius posted a cryptic message on his X account: “I will do it ten more times if necessary. They are not ready”, avoiding direct mention of the Ballon d’Or or France Football, the organising magazine.

Toni Kroos, a former Real Madrid team-mate, showed his support by sharing a photo on Instagram and writing ‘The best’, to which Vinícius replied: ‘I love you, Antonio’. Furthermore, Kroos openly defended Vinícius, stating: “Vinícius Junior deserves the Ballon d’Or. The problems between Real Madrid and UEFA should not affect the award. It’s a disgrace.”
