The coach of the Angolan national team, Pedro Gonçalves, described the friendly against world champions Argentina as a ‘great stimulus’ for the team. The match, scheduled for 2025, will be part of the celebrations for the country’s 50th anniversary of independence in November.
“It’s a great stimulus, which we want to capitalise on by achieving our goals in the league” said Gonçalves, following the official announcement by the Angolan president.
Under the Portuguese coach, the Palancas Negras qualified for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) unbeaten. This milestone comes just nine months after their historic run to the quarter-finals of the last edition, held in Côte d’Ivoire – the team’s best performance in the competition to date.
The match against Argentina not only symbolises the progress of Angolan football, but is also seen as a unique opportunity to strengthen preparation and motivation for CAN 2025.
