FIA punishes Verstappen with community service in Rwanda

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has decided that Max Verstappen will have to do community service in Rwanda following incidents that resulted in the loss of points on his Superlicence as a driver.

Over the course of 2024, the Dutch driver has had several run-ins with the FIA, resulting in sanctions, fines for bad language and other punishments. One of the most egregious moments occurred at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when Verstappen lost his temper and declared, ‘Can we ask for a 20-second penalty? Stupid idiots!’ This resulted in an additional 10-second penalty and the deduction of two points from his licence.

Recently, the FIA reiterated the need for Verstappen to respect the punishment imposed after his inappropriate behaviour during the Singapore Grand Prix press conference. The driver will have to do community service in Rwanda.

In addition, Verstappen will have to travel to the capital Kigali, where he will receive the trophy celebrating his title as four-time Formula One World Champion. The event will take place during the F.I.S.A. (International Formula 1 Federation). The event will take place during the FIA general meetings, which mark the official end of the season.
