Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker was the target of racist messages online following Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Juventus. The English club issued a statement strongly condemning the attacks on the player.
“We refuse to tolerate any form of discrimination, whether in stadiums or online. We offer our full support to Kyle Walker after the disgusting treatment he has suffered”, the club stressed on its official website.
Walker also spoke out about the case, sharing one of the messages he received on Instagram. “No one should be subjected to the disgusting, racist and threatening abuse I received after the game. It is essential that Instagram and the authorities take action to eradicate this problem. It is never acceptable”, the player wrote.
Manchester City have reinforced their commitment to combating racism and supporting the athlete, while calling for stricter action from digital platforms against hate speech.
