Former Manchester United Defender Rio Ferdinand: “Marcus Rashford Has No Future at the Club”

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, believes Marcus Rashford has no future at the club, after coach Ruben Amorim stated he prefers goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital over the English international.

Rashford has not played for Manchester United since December 12. Since then, Ruben Amorim has excluded him from the squad for every match, except for one where he remained on the bench without being used.

When asked about Rashford’s absence during the 1-0 victory against Fulham last Sunday, Amorim pointed to the player’s lack of commitment in training, throwing a jab in favor of the 63-year-old goalkeeper coach, Jorge Vital.

“The reason is training, what I believe a footballer should do in training, in life, and every day… I prefer Vital over a player who doesn’t give their all every day”, said Amorim, adding another sharp comment to his direct remarks since taking on the role in November.

Rio Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles and a Champions League during his 12 years at Old Trafford, called these comments “humiliating” for Rashford.

“If I were the player the coach was talking about like that… it would be embarrassing”, Ferdinand said on his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“We all have bad days or times when we don’t play well, when our confidence is low, but commitment should never be questioned. It’s a heavy comment because Ruben knows exactly what the reaction will be after such a statement. I don’t think there’s any going back for Rashford with comments like that”,
he added.

Rashford, who stated in December that he was “ready for a new challenge”, now finds himself in a standstill just one week before the opening of the winter transfer window.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan are among the European clubs interested in the 27-year-old, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for Manchester United. However, a transfer seems complicated due to his weekly salary of £300,000 stipulated in his contract, which runs until 2028.
