Roberto Baggio, a legend of Italian and world football, was the victim of a robbery at his home during the match between Spain and Italy (1-0), and was even assaulted with a weapon.
The former player, now 57 years old, was at his villa with his family watching the Italy-Spain game when, around 10 PM local time, a gang of five armed individuals broke into his house in Altavilla Vicentina.
After disabling the alarm and security systems, the gang entered the residence. Baggio tried to confront one of them, and after a brief struggle, he was struck with the butt of a gun, causing a deep wound. Following this, Baggio and his family were locked in a room while the assailants ransacked the house for about 40 minutes.
Once he realized the assailants had left, the former player broke down the door and called the police. Baggio was taken to the emergency room in Arzignano, where he received stitches for his head wound.
