Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment at his team’s performance against Lille, saying: “The sadness comes from the way the team felt. We can lose games, but we didn’t leave a good impression. That’s what worries me most. We have the tools to learn and we need to correct things quickly because we have another game on Saturday.”
The 65-year-old Ancelotti made no secret of his frustration at Real Madrid’s first defeat of the season, adding, “To be honest, today’s criticism is fair and justified, and we have to accept it.” He also compared this defeat to the previous one against Atlético Madrid, which he described as a “fantastic wake-up call”, hoping that this new defeat serves the same purpose.
Ancelotti is confident that the problems can be solved, noting: “Fortunately, this hasn’t happened often recently. They played better, we struggled to get into the game, and although we had a chance late on, it wasn’t deserved. We need to improve, but it’s not complicated”.
The Italian coach acknowledged that his team had taken a step backwards. “They played better, and we only had chances at the end of the game, from crosses. The team didn’t perform well. It’s a long season and we need to improve. It looked like we were improving, but today we regressed a little”.
At the press conference, Ancelotti was not surprised by Lille’s play, acknowledging their precision and clarity.
