Thibaut Courtois, the 32-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, was once again outstanding in goal for Real Madrid. Against a well-organized team like Stuttgart, the keeper was impeccable, resisting the Germans’ relentless attacks.
Courtois, whose talent has long been recognized, played a decisive role in Real Madrid’s victory in their Champions League opener. He made four decisive saves, including preventing Stiller from scoring after a well-worked Stuttgart move. He also saved two other dangerous shots, from Millot and Lewelling, and deflected Deniz Undav’s shot past Carvajal.
In addition to his defensive duties, Courtois continues to be a key player in the construction of attacking moves, often being the starting point for the team’s rapid attacks, with his long throws taking advantage of the speed of Rodrygo and Vinicius.
Fully recovered from injury, the Belgian has returned to full fitness to contest another Champions League final, and has maintained a very high level of performance this season.
