Following the 0-0 draw between England and Slovenia on the third day of Group C at the 2024 European Football Championship in Cologne, Germany:
“I think we made a lot of progress with the ball. I think the players who came on had a very good impact on the match. We kept our goal intact, which enabled us to finish top of the group.
I’m very proud of the players. They kept their composure in a very difficult environment. We controlled the second half and created some good chances that unfortunately we weren’t able to convert, but we kept our defensive solidity.
I’m very pleased with what they did. Of course, we would have liked to have scored a few goals, but we’re happy to have come out on top. Our first objective was to qualify (for the last 16) and our second was to win the group. Today we showed some encouraging signs.
We’ll only succeed if we’re together, so this energy is crucial for the team. My job is to guide the team, get the best out of them and give them perspective.”
