FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the joint bid of Portugal, Spain and Morocco to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup and Saudi Arabia to host the 2034 edition. He described both proposals as “extraordinary dossiers” that embody the spirit of global unity and innovation.
Infantino highlighted the importance of 2030, which marks the 100th anniversary of the first FIFA World Cup held in Uruguay. “What better way to celebrate this milestone than with a World Cup that spans six countries, three continents and features 104 epic matches? The world will come together to honour the centenary of the World Cup”, he stressed. “In 2034, we will usher in a new century of football with a spectacular tournament in Saudi Arabia.”
A vision of unity and inclusion:
Speaking at the FIFA Congress, Infantino noted that “football unites the world like nothing else”, highlighting the sport’s growing reach without compromising quality. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the confederations and FIFA Council members in realizing the joint bid.
“Through mutual respect and a willingness to compromise, we have reached a historic, consensus-based decision that unites the world”, Infantino said. He highlighted the values of unity and inclusiveness as central to FIFA’s mission, underlining the importance of making history together in an increasingly divided world.
