Already an NBA MVP and Olympic gold medalist, Joel Embiid has until the end of the decade to secure his first NBA championship with the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid, a seven-time All-Star, signed a $193 million contract extension with a player option for the 2028-29 season. He expressed his commitment to staying in Philadelphia for the rest of his career, saying, “Philadelphia is home.”
Embiid, who holds a franchise record of 70 points in a game, has faced injury challenges but remains a cornerstone for the team. Along with new contracts for Paul George and Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers have committed over $400 million in hopes of building a championship-contending Big Three.
Selected third overall in 2014, Embiid has earned multiple accolades, including five All-NBA Team honors and the 2022-23 MVP. In 433 games, he has averaged 27.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. Despite his journey from Cameroon to the NBA, Embiid remains humble, crediting the city and its fans for their unwavering support.
