An arbitration board has directed Juventus to compensate Cristiano Ronaldo with over $10 million due to a salary disagreement. This disagreement stemmed from Juventus players agreeing to postpone a portion of their salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The awarded amount of 9.8 million euros ($10.5 million) to Ronaldo represents half of what the five-time Ballon d’Or awardee had initially claimed from the Turin-based club in outstanding salaries.
In response to the ruling, Juventus released a statement on Wednesday night stating that, backed by its legal team, it is currently evaluating the arbitration board’s decision and is considering all actions to safeguard its rights.
During his time at Juventus from 2018 to 2021, Ronaldo played a pivotal role, contributing to the club securing two Serie A championships.
In 2023, Juventus underwent significant changes as former president Andrea Agnelli, along with the entire club board, stepped down amidst allegations of fraudulent accounting. This led to Juventus facing a 10-point deduction in Serie A and being excluded by UEFA from European competitions for that season.
Currently, Ronaldo is associated with Al-Nassr football club in Saudi Arabia.
