Raphael Varane and Manchester United announced this week that the Frenchman will leave the club this summer after three years at Old Trafford. A return to the club where he was developed is not out of the question.
Foot Mercato reports that Lens is considering the possibility of re-signing Varane, although the chances are slim given the financial implications.
Last year, Varane told GQ: “I will finish my career in Madrid, Manchester, or Lens. It’s certain that I will not go to another club. But returning to Real Madrid seems complicated; we usually don’t go back there. It’s most likely that I’ll end up in Manchester or Lens.”
Raphael Varane played 21 games for Manchester United in the current Premier League season, scoring one goal. Trained at Lens, the French international left the French club in 2011 after making 24 appearances and scoring two goals, before signing for Real Madrid.
