Lionel Messi experienced an unexpected and remarkable departure from Barcelona, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth for both the club and the player. However, the legendary number 10 took advantage of Barça’s 125th anniversary celebration to express his affection and gratitude for the team in an interview with TV3.
“First of all, I want to congratulate the club on its 125th anniversary. I am proud to have been part of this history and to be a Barcelona fan”, said Messi.
The Argentine continued, highlighting his connection with the club: “I was lucky that God brought me to this place and allowed me to spend my entire life at this special club. Barça is unique, unlike any other, even in difficult times, with the changes in the management of football today. Seeing the first team representing what we want and like is a source of great pride. I miss the club, the city, the people and the affection I have received. I hope we continue to grow and make this club even greater.”
Messi spent 21 years at Barcelona, scoring 672 goals in 778 appearances and winning 35 titles, including four Champions Leagues and 10 La Ligas. In 2021, he joined PSG and currently plays in the MLS for Inter Miami.
