The former German national team coach succeeds Xavi. At 59 years old, he will be coaching only his second club, after leading Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021.
After rumors, the confirmation. Hansi Flick was announced this Wednesday as the new coach of Barcelona, with a contract signed until 2026.

The 59-year-old German was Joan Laporta’s choice to replace Xavi Hernández. This will be his first experience abroad after working at Bayern and with the German national team.

In Munich, he won the Bundesliga twice and led the team to the Champions League title, also adding a Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, a DFB-Pokal, and a DFL-Supercup to his achievements.

He then had a stint with the German national team in 2021, which was less successful. Germany’s elimination in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup (behind Spain and Japan) did not remove him from the position, but the following year, he couldn’t withstand only three wins in the 15 matches played to prepare for Euro 2024 at home.

At Barcelona, he joins a club that finished second in LaLiga, behind Real Madrid. Additionally, the Blaugrana lost the Spanish Super Cup final to Los Merengues, were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey (against Athletic Bilbao), and exited the Champions League at the same stage (to PSG).
