Scholes believes the team lacks a strong backbone and has criticized Rúben Amorim’s current squad, highlighting major weaknesses. Despite recent victories, the former midfielder insists that United must make at least five major signings to avoid a potential crisis.
“There are some worrying things. There are many things he (Rúben Amorim) needs to do, we all know that, especially in the transfer windows, but I don’t see a core of players,” Scholes said on The Overlap Fan Debate, presented by Sky Bet.
“When you look at teams, you see their backbone. Liverpool: great goalkeeper, great central midfielder, forwards, midfielders, everything. I think United has none of that in any position. I believe a new goalkeeper, possibly two central midfielders, and two centre-forwards are needed,” he added.
