Pep Guardiola defends Manchester City after their dramatic draw against Feyenoord

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola showed his usual support for his players after the frustrating 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the Champions League. The team squandered a three-goal lead, extending their winless run to six games. The run includes five consecutive defeats, including the recent one against Tottenham.

Feyenoord scored three goals in 15 minutes, cancelling out what looked like a comfortable victory for the Citizens. “We didn’t have to say anything to the players; they know it perfectly. It was difficult to digest, but it is what it is. We conceded the first goal and lost stability,” Guardiola analysed.

Despite Erling Haaland’s two goals and one from Ilkay Gundogan, defensive errors were paid for dearly. Josko Gvardiol, 22, was involved in the passes that led to goals from Santiago Giménez and David Hancko. “He is young and will learn. “You can’t blame him for anything. He’s a fantastic talent and we have to support him,” the coach said.

The Etihad fans expressed their frustration with boos after the match, which leaves City in 15th place in the group, with little chance of automatic qualification. “They have every right to express their feelings. Of course they are disappointed,” admitted Guardiola.

Feyenoord coach Brian Priske praised his team’s resilience. “It’s incredible how these players fought until the end,” he stressed.

City now face a crucial challenge against Premier League leaders Liverpool. On how to motivate his team, Guardiola was direct: “It’s my job. We have to prepare.”
