British winger Raheem Sterling is seeking “clarity” regarding his future at Chelsea.
The 29-year-old was not included in the squad for Chelsea’s season opener on Sunday, August 18. Just before the match, Sterling’s representatives issued a statement requesting answers.
When asked at a post-match press conference if Sterling would remain with the club after the transfer window closes, Chelsea’s head coach responded:
“I don’t know. The only thing I can say is that it was a technical decision not to play Sterling. In the coming days, we’ll likely sit down and clarify the situation, but it’s nothing more than that”, said Enzo Maresca.
“For now, all the players are Chelsea players. If they remain Chelsea players, we will try to use them, but this was purely a technical decision.”
“I want Raheem Sterling, just as I want all 30 players we have. But there isn’t space for everyone, so some will have to leave.”
Currently, Chelsea’s squad consists of 42 players.
Sterling, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022, has made 81 appearances and scored 19 goals for the club.
