Olympique Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi praised the unique atmosphere of the Stade Vélodrome after the spectacular 3-2 victory against Lyon.
🎙️ “A privilege to coach here”
“Tonight I told the team that I am lucky and privileged to be their coach. They played with quality, sacrifice, and heart—everything that football represents,” said the Italian coach.
“Coaching Marseille is a privilege because this stadium is unique in Europe. I have seen many, but I repeat: it is a privilege. We are paid to work here, but we should also be willing to buy a ticket for a show like this. That’s the truth,” he added.
De Zerbi emphasized the importance of the Stade Vélodrome’s atmosphere and the value of a victory like this:
“I didn’t come here for Ligue 1, but for this stadium, for matches like this, to make the Vélodrome explode. The hard work and sacrifices tonight have paid off.”
The coach then analyzed the team’s performance, highlighting that OM played well from the first half:
“We had an excellent first half, even when the score was still 0-0. Lyon only crossed the halfway line twice. We were just missing the final touches, but then we found more space.”
Forget defeats and look ahead
After the 2-0 defeat against Nice in the previous round, De Zerbi stressed the importance of reacting:
“Most teams lose matches. What matters is overcoming the defeat without carrying it with us. That is also the beauty of tonight’s game.”
