The family of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died in 2023, is planning to retire from the world of football. The heirs are preparing to sell AC Monza, the Serie A club.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Fininvest, the media holding company owned by Berlusconi’s five sons, is in advanced talks with Italian-American billionaire Mario Gabelli to sell a majority stake. Gabelli, who heads Gamco Investors, a company that manages $31 billion, is estimated by Forbes to have personal wealth close to $2 billion. A Fininvest spokesman confirmed the family’s intention to sell the club.
Berlusconi owned AC Milan from 1986 to 2017. He took control of Monza in September 2018 and under his ownership the club achieved promotion to Serie A for the first time in its 100-year history.
