South Africa’s soccer president Danny Jordaan arrested on fraud and theft charges

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan, known for bringing the first FIFA World Cup to Africa in 2010, has been arrested on charges of fraud and theft. Jordaan allegedly misappropriated approximately R1.3 million ($72,372) from SAFA funds to pay for personal services, including a PR firm and private security.

Jordaan’s arrest follows a March investigation by South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit, which raided SAFA’s headquarters, seizing electronic devices and files for evidence, according to police spokesperson Katlego Mogale. The investigation uncovered information that led to the charges against Jordaan, along with a businessman and another SAFA official.

All three are scheduled to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday. As of now, SAFA has not issued any official comment regarding the arrests.
