The two French rugby players accused of rape in Argentina were released on Monday, just over a month after their arrest, but will have to remain in Argentina for the duration of the investigation, the Mendoza public prosecutor’s office announced.
The public prosecutor’s office considered that at this stage, “the evidence gathered is not sufficient” to justify the continued provisional detention of Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, who are accused of aggravated rape.
The two athletes were arrested on 8 July and placed under house arrest in Mendoza on 17 July.
