Thiago Scuro analyzes the clash between Monaco and Benfica in the Champions League

AS Monaco’s general director, Thiago Scuro, has anticipated “two difficult matches” against Benfica in the playoff for a place in the Round of 16 of the 2024/25 Champions League. “These will be two demanding games, but we wanted to qualify to face great teams and deliver strong performances,” the Brazilian executive stated on the official website of the Monaco-based club.

Monaco, third in Ligue 1, is preparing to face Benfica, second in the Portuguese league and a two-time European Cup winner (1961 and 1962). “Benfica has a great history in the Champions League, and we are ready to face them,” added Scuro.

Objective: Show progress on the pitch

Thiago Scuro emphasized the importance of delivering strong performances both at home and in Lisbon:
“We want to show our progress on the pitch and prove that we deserve to continue our journey in this competition.”

In the group stage, Monaco had already faced Benfica, losing 3-2 at home after leading twice.

Benfica, which finished 16th in the group stage rankings, will play the first leg away against Monaco (17th-ranked team) on February 11 or 12.
The return leg will take place at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, on February 18 or 19.

If Benfica advances, they will face Liverpool or Barcelona in the Round of 16, with the first leg at Estádio da Luz on March 4 or 5 and the return leg away on March 11 or 12.
